LeBron’s announcement is exciting for Timberwolves fans

With the FIBA World Cup behind us, Minnesota Timberwolves fans can start looking ahead to the 2023-24 NBA season. There is much to be excited about with the Wolves bringing back a roster that should be a surefire playoff team with anything close to a clean bill of health.

But just when everyone was beginning to shift their focus away from international competition, Shams Charania dropped some major news on Monday that is sure to excite fans in Minnesota. Shams revealed that LeBron James has indicated he wants to compete with the United States at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

James is also prepared to bring along some high level names with him — like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. This comes as extremely exciting news for Americans eager to see Team USA redeem the loss at the World Cup, as well as for basketball fans who have not seen LeBron compete internationally in over a decade.

Sources: LeBron James wants to represent Team USA at 2024 Paris Olympics and is spearheading group of future Hall of Famers – including Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant – prepared to commit.

LeBron’s return to the Olympics should excite Timberwolves fans

But this announcement should also perk up the ears of Timberwolves fans who have had their mind on Anthony Edwards and his potential Olympic debut next summer. Many already thought he was a sure bet to be included on the squad after his FIBA performance.

Now, Edwards will be joining a US Olympic team potentially featuring some of the all-time greats in the sport. All three of LeBron, Curry and Durant have helped lead the US to the top in international competition in past years.

In 2008 and 2012, LeBron was instrumental in helping the United States bring home the gold medal at the Olympics. Kevin Durant has been the leading scorer for the last three American Olympic gold squads, and Curry helped the team to gold at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

The idea of Anthony Edwards getting to play alongside and learn from some of the legends of the game while competing for gold is positively riveting. If LeBron James does indeed head up the Olympic team, there is little doubt he would want Edwards there as well. After all, Ant was LeBron’s first overall selection at the 2023 All-Star Game.
