Another week, another NFL record for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Entering Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes was 228 passing yards shy of 25,000 for his career.
Mahomes got the record in the third quarter when he connected with wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 37-yard pass.
The drive ended with a Mahomes touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce, and that ended Mahomes’ day.
And what a day it was.
Mahomes completed 24 of 33 passes for 272 yards and three touchdown throws (127.3 rating). That gives Mahomes 25,044 passing yards in his career. He got to 25K passing yards in his 83rd career game, the quickest it’s ever taken a quarterback to reach that milestone.
A Fox Sports graphic showed that the old record was held by Miami Dolphins Hall of Famer Dan Marino, who got to 25,000 passing yards in 92 games. Fellow Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner did it in 97 games, as did Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
However, Chiefs Communications said Mahomes bested a mark held by Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (90 games).
With that completion, QB Patrick Mahomes has eclipsed 25,000 career passing yards. In just his 83rd career game, he is the quickest QB to reach 25K, besting Matthew Stafford's previous mark of 90 games.

It doesn’t matter too much who had the record, because it belongs to Mahomes now.
