Family In Tears Reuniting with 18-Year-Old Dog Missing for 3 Years

Binky, aka Mr. B. was a beloved pet for over a decade, from the time he was rescued until he went missing. Binky’s family had microchipped him and they waited by the phone for years but no call came and they gave up hoping. So it came as a shock to his family when a dog shelter in Summerville, South Carolina called over 3 years later to tell them they had Binky!

A Good Samaritan had found the dog, now 18 years old, on the road. “Binky came into our shelter presenting with being severely matted, malnourished, had overgrown nails, rotting teeth, covered in fleas and with a whole slew of other medical issues that required immediate attention due to his age,” Dorchester Paws shared on their Facebook page.

It was clear that Binky hadn’t been cared for for a very long time. But one thing he did have was a microchip!

“Upon intake, Mr. B. was completely shaved, received a full medical workup and received the life-saving medical treatment he so desperately needed thanks to the amazing medical team at Dorchester Paws. While cleaning him up, the staff scanned for a microchip, to only find out that he was someone’s and in fact, his owners live six hours away from Summerville, S.C.”

“When the owners were contacted, they expressed how Mr. B has been missing for over three years! They were absolutely devastated when he wasn’t found, as they did everything they could but had no luck in finding him. All they hoped for was for him to be found and scanned. They waited by the phone for years, waiting for the phone call that they then received on March 19, 2023. The family was in utter disbelief.”

A long-wished for reunion happened shortly after with a shelter volunteer driving six hours with Binky to make the emotional reunion happen.

Dorchester Paws wrote, “Tears were had by all, as this impossible journey was completed, Mr. B can rest peacefully with the family that rescued him from a shelter all those years ago.”

They added, “Binky’s story is not only heart wrenching, but a story of the importance of microchips and doing the right thing. If someone would have got Binky scanned when he was first found in Georgia he could have been reunited a lot sooner. Somehow this little guy made it up to Summerville, got loose again and was finally brought in to be scanned for a microchip. Microchips truly are life saving and the best way to get a lost pet back home.”
