Just when you thought their property portfolio couldn’t get any bigger, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have snapped up another significant land parcel before year-end.
Back in August 2021, retired-hedge fund manager Bruce Kovner and his wife Suzie put their oceanfront property 2779 Padaro Lane on the market for around US$160 million ($238.76 million). The 22-acre property comprised two houses on different lots as well as another three vacant lots.
Ellen and Portia recently purchased part of the property with the newer house, 2781 Padaro Lane, which spans 8066 square feet on 2.44 acres of land, paying US$41.697 million ($62.19 million) as well as US$28.25 million ($42.14 million) for one of the vacant lots, 2801 Padaro Lane on 6.58 acres of land. This adds up to an almost US$70 million ($104 million) sale, making it the biggest residential sale in Santa Barbara County history.
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the pair’s new compound sits on about 10 acres of land which houses a Tuscan-style mansion and plenty of open space for activity. The property is connected by a private, gated road with built-in security, and the Barranca Path offers private access to the beach below.
The entire ‘Sanctuary at Loon Point’ property, with its 22 acres originally listed, still has one of its mansions and two vacant parcels on the market.

The private beach area, along the top of the bluff, has an outdoor firepit, tiki torches, an antique rowboat, stone dining table with an umbrella, and is wired for telephone and internet access.
The property boasts views of the Santa Barbara harbour all the way down the coast to Ventura. Another impressive buy to add to their already impressive property portfolio.
