Todd Boehly Could Be About To Redeem Himself With ‘World-Class’ £60m Signing

Chelsea and co-owner Todd Boehly have been heavily criticised since the American and Clearlake Capital took over the club.

“It’s just a little bit mad; it’s chaotic,” former Manchester United defender Gary Neville recently said on Sky Sports when discussing Chelsea’s recent transfer business.

Todd Boehly and Co have probably made decisions that Chelsea fans have not been impressed with either, such as the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, the manager who won the club their second Champions League trophy.

A lot has gone wrong, but could those in charge be about to redeem themselves with the signing of Ivan Toney? Perhaps.

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all likely to be in the race for the Brentford man’s signature in January, which could cost the winner £60m.

When you look at Mauricio Pochettino’s side, it is clear to see that scoring goals is their biggest issue. Signing Toney could easily fix that.

The 27-year-old, who has been described as a “world-class player” by former Brentford defender Hermann Hreidarsson, was one of the best No.9s in the Premier League last season. In 33 appearances, he netted 20 times.

Chelsea have a lot of quality in their squad but, in games, they have lacked a clinical forward to win them all three points. It is why they currently sit 14th in the table with just five goals to their name.

That may be the only thing holding them back right now. So if Boehly goes out and buys that clinical forward, a Toney-type striker, perhaps he fixes the issue. And if so, you suspect Chelsea fans will quickly forget the mistakes their co-owner and the rest of the club’s ownership have made since they arrived in west London.
