‘Bumps and bruises’: National team manager confirms £40m Chelsea man is injured, asked to come off last night

England U21 manager Lee Carsley has claimed that Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer has picked up an injury on international duty.

He told journalist Jordan Davies that the 21-year-old has suffered a dead leg, and is going to be monitored for the remainder of the break.

Palmer was handed the captain’s armband for last night’s fixture for the Young Lions, which ended up being a dominant display.

They won 9-1 after going a goal behind, with a number of Chelsea players proving their talents.

Noni Madueke scored twice, including a fantastic goal that was a sign of exactly what he can do.

He cut in from the right, beating numerous defenders before firing an effort into the opposite corner.

It was not all good news though. Palmer had asked his coaching staff to replace him as he clutched at his leg.

The Englishman was replaced, and emerged later on with heavy strapping around his leg.

Now, Carsley has claimed that they will not be taking any chances with playing him again if he is not 100% fit.

He said: “There are a few bumps and bruises and we will monitor Cole [Palmer] but we will not be taking any chances. It’s a dead leg.”

The site was no doubt extremely concerning for Chelsea supporters, who have been enjoying watching him play since his £40m deadline day move.

There will have been plenty of expectations that he would have been named in the starting line-up for the next Premier League game against Arsenal.

It will be there biggest test of the season, and any injuries to starting players will be big blows.
