Raging Man Utd Boss Erik Ten Hag Says TWO Copenhagen Goals Should Not Have Stood And Slams VAR Over Rashford Red Card

Erik ten Hag claims one of the controversial decisions completely changed the outcome of the game

ERIK TEN HAG furiously claimed TWO of Copenhagen’s goal should not have stood in Manchester United’s damaging 4-3 defeat on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils led 2-0 thanks to a Rasmus Hojlund brace, before Marcus Rashford was controversially sent off for catching Copenhagen defender Elias Jelert on the ankle with his studs.

Copenhagen then came back into the game through ex-Southampton man Mohamed Elyounoussi.

And Diogo Goncalves levelled things up in first-half stoppage time from the penalty spot.

Bruno Fernandes restored Man Utd’s advantage midway through the second period, before Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji won the game for the hosts late on.

However, Ten Hag believes the first goal should have been disallowed as a Copenhagen player was stood in front of Andre Onana when Elyounoussi took aim.

The Man Utd boss also felt the Maguire handball was not a penalty.

And he slammed the decision to send off Rashford with what he believes was the crucial moment of the match.

He said: “The red card changes everything. I think when you freeze frame it, it always looks so much worse and as I say it takes them so long and they make a red card of it.

“Come on. The first 25 minutes we dictated, dominated the game, went 2-0 up and then the red card changes everything. We are down to 10 and we are very disappointed.

“The second is a penalty that’s very harsh. The ball on the hand, but it’s so close and the hand is in such a normal position. He (Harry Maguire) went for the ball and the ref needs such a long time.

“We conceded two goals before half-time which should never count. The first is offside, a player is in front of Andre Onana.

“That is in four games, four penalties against us, and I say three are very debatable.

“I’m very disappointed about such decisions. The game is never meant to be like this. This has nothing to do with football.

“Decisions have to be made and I accept also wrong decisions are made by some at this level. Three such tough decisions (against FC Copenhagen). You control the game and the game is never meant to be for that.”

The result means Man Utd sit bottom of their Champions League group with just two games remaining.

They have lost three of their four European matches, with their final two coming away at Galatasaray and at home to Bayern Munich.
