Manchester United Training Squad Vs Bayern Munich As Two Players Miss Out Through Illness

The early team news and injury latest ahead of Man Utd’s clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were among the absentees at Manchester United’s open training session ahead of facing Bayern Munich.

The pair were missing due to illness, with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount also absent. Manager Erik ten Hag was handed a boost ahead of the must-win Champions League fixture with the inclusion of Victor Lindelof who took part after he missed the defeat to Bournemouth through injury.

Long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez was also spotted heading onto the pitch with the main group before working individually outside, as he gets closer to a return to action.

United need to beat Bayern Munich and hope that the other game in the group, between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray, ends in a draw.

Ten Hag’s side scored three times at the Allianz Arena on matchday one but lost 4-3, but that performance has given the Dutchman hope that his side can match Bayern, who are 39 games unbeaten in group stage matches, a run dating back to 2017.

“There were stages in that game where we played very good. It was head to head in that game for a long time,” he said.

“We also suffered some mistakes that were absolutely avoidable but one thing for sure when you play Bayern Munich – you have to play your best, they have a good team and very good individual players. But as I say, Chelsea also has amazing players and we went head to head with them and dominated them so I think we can do it against Bayern as well.

“It’s our team. We are not consistent, that’s clear but we have also a very good performance and highs and if we get it and are in the right spirit then we are able to do it and beat any opponent.”

Outfield squad members:

Varane, Evans, McTominay, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Amrabat, Shaw, Lindelof, Van de Beek, Hojlund, Dalot, Antony, Hannibal, Gore, Fernandes, Garnacho, Mainoo, Amad, Reguilon, Pellistri.

*Martinez was training individually
