Ten Hag should unleash ‘old-school’ 19-year-old v Wigan, saving Man Utd £130m in the process

Dan Gore is set for a massive 2024 at Manchester United and that could all begin on Monday against Wigan in the FA Cup.

Manchester United have a host of talented young players at their disposal but one of the most exciting is midfielder Dan Gore. The ‘aggressive‘ midfield ace has been a part of the first team this season but only featured a few times through cameos – particularly against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Gore being in the squad though shows Erik ten Hag is impressed by what he’s seen which signals he could be in line for a huge year at United.

As he awaits his inaugural start of the campaign, he will have eyed this Monday as a potential chance since the draw in December. An FA Cup tie against lower-league opposition could be perfect.

As much as it would be incredible for him to start here, it could be equally beneficial for Ten Hag who could find an alternative to United’s £130m target, Joao Neves.

One midfielder who has been consistently linked with – and been scouted by – United over the last few months is Benfica ace Joao Neves who at just 19, is among the most sought-after players in Europe.

But after being quoted £130m a deal looks unlikely, but Ten Hag could have his very own version via Carrington in Gore, as the pair share some real similarities.

For a start, both are diminutive midfielders (Neves is 5ft 7in, Gore is 5ft 5.5in) – despite being strong – with a low centre of gravity which gives both a top-class ability on the ball.

Both are reliable passers in defensive midfield while being aggressive in the tackle with a real understanding of football.

There is a real chance Gore could leave Ten Hag wondering ‘Neves who?’ if he is started against Wigan on Monday night.

What can United fans expect from Dan Gore?

If he is given a chance against Wigan, United fans can expect to see some impressive possession stats, along with hard work and passion.

Excitement around Gore is at an all-time high as he impresses each time he gets a chance. This has contributed to Jonny Evans’ verdict on the 19-year-old, claiming he can make it at United.

Gore has also been compared with Roy Keane in the past as he shares ‘old-school’ qualities with the United legend.

With a loan being tipped for the youngster he could find that without a start here, he’s best served to find a loan to secure some game time.
