Rockets Are Targeting Devin Booker, Zero Chance For Kevin Durant

The Houston Rockets have strategically positioned themselves for a potential blockbuster trade by acquiring significant draft capital, including the Phoenix Suns’ 2025, 2027, and 2029 first-round picks. These assets could be pivotal in their pursuit of a star player to complement their young and talented roster. However, the Rockets seem to have set their sights firmly on Devin Booker rather than Kevin Durant.

Adrian Wojnarowski recently highlighted that Houston is “in prime position” to make a bid for Booker. The Rockets see Booker, who is 27 years old, as a perfect fit for their timeline and a potential cornerstone to build around alongside their young stars like Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Booker, a prolific scorer, and an All-Star, would significantly elevate the Rockets’ competitiveness and accelerate their rebuild.

While the Rockets’ acquisition of Phoenix’s future picks gives them leverage, the Suns currently intend to continue their efforts to win with both Durant and Booker. However, if the Suns’ championship aspirations falter, Booker could become available, making Houston’s draft assets highly valuable in a potential trade.

On the other hand, the rumors of Kevin Durant joining the Rockets have been swiftly debunked. Durant’s agent, Rich Kleinman, dismissed these speculations by commenting with a “cap” emoji on an Instagram post suggesting the Rockets’ interest in Durant. This response indicates that there is no truth to the rumors, and Durant is expected to remain with the Suns.

The Rockets’ focus on Booker aligns with their long-term strategy and rebuild timeline. Booker’s youth, coupled with his elite scoring ability, makes him an ideal target. By adding him to their roster, the Rockets would not only boost their offensive firepower but also gain a player with significant playoff experience.

But, if the Rockets are unable to land Booker or Durant, they might turn their attention to Jimmy Butler. Butler has been linked with a move away from the Miami Heat, and despite Heat President Pat Riley’s insistence that they won’t trade Butler, contract disputes could make a deal possible.

While the Houston Rockets have the assets to make a major trade, their pursuit is more likely aimed at acquiring Devin Booker rather than Kevin Durant. The Rockets are strategically positioned to make a compelling offer for Booker, which could transform them into a competitive force in the Western Conference.

The Suns Would Be Making A Massive Mistake If They Give Up On Their Big 3

The rumors suggesting that the Phoenix Suns should consider breaking up their Big 3—Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker—are gaining traction, but doing so would be a massive mistake. Despite the challenges and high costs associated with maintaining this star-studded lineup, the potential benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Kevin Durant is maybe 35 years old and Bradley Beal is 30, but both players remain among the elite scorers in the NBA. Durant, in particular, continues to demonstrate his scoring prowess and versatility, while Beal has consistently been a top offensive threat.

Devin Booker, at 27, is in the prime of his career and has shown he can perform at an All-Star level. The combination of these three players presents a formidable offensive force that few teams can match.

It is crucial to remember that the Big 3 has only had one season together. During this time, they faced numerous challenges, including injuries and an unbalanced roster. However, with a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, who is widely regarded as an offensive genius, there is a significant opportunity for improvement.

Budenholzer’s coaching acumen and strategic adjustments could help unlock the full potential of this trio, leading to a more cohesive and effective team.

Moreover, the Suns’ front office has already committed heavily to this roster. They are expected to pay $68 million in luxury tax this season, with a projected luxury bill of over $92 million for next season. With such substantial financial commitments already in place, it would be prudent to give the Big 3 another chance to succeed. Breaking up the team now would not only waste the investments made but also disrupt the continuity needed for long-term success.

Patience and stability are often key ingredients for building championship teams. The Suns should resist the urge to make hasty decisions and instead focus on refining their roster and addressing weaknesses. With another season or two, the chemistry between Durant, Beal, and Booker can improve, leading to a stronger and more resilient team capable of competing at the highest level.

The Suns should stay the course and give their Big 3 the opportunity to prove their worth. The potential for greatness is there, and with the right adjustments and continued commitment, this team could achieve significant success. Breaking up the Big 3 now would be a hasty and costly mistake.
