Elon Musk: Tesla will sell an upgrade package that ‘transforms’ the Cybertruck electric pickup into a boat

Tesla will allow users to upgrade their Cybertruck into a water vehicle.

Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla plans to offer an upgrade package that will turn the Cybertruck electric pickup truck into a boat – capable of traveling at least 100 meters on water.

Musk has previously made claims about how Tesla cars can float and act like boats for short periods of time.

At the time, they weren’t taken seriously because Tesla’s warranty actually didn’t allow for taking the vehicle underwater.

Tesla’s upgrade package can turn the Cybertruck pickup into a real boat.

However, Tesla’s CEO has actually turned the idea into reality with the Cybertruck – a “weird” off-road vehicle.

Last year, Musk claimed the Tesla Cybertruck would be “waterproof enough” to serve as a boat and cross rivers:

The Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to be used as a boat for short periods of time, so it can cross rivers, lakes, and even the ocean without much trouble.

Elon Musk added that the current goal is to send a Cybertruck that can cross the water between SpaceX’s Starbase facility and South Padre Island in Texas, a distance of about 360 meters (1,100 feet).

Since Tesla began delivering its Cybertruck last month, information about the vehicle’s Off-Road Modes has been released, including an “Amp Mode” that seals the battery pack.

“We will offer an upgrade package that will allow the Cybertruck to go through at least 100 meters of water like a boat. Most of the upgrades will be in the waterproofing of the cabin doors,” said Elon Musk.

Tesla CEO did not share further details about the product package nor reveal the time of sale.

In fact, Tesla isn’t the first company to think about selling a package that could turn the Cybertruck into a boat.

After Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, one company designed a kit that could turn the pickup into an electric catamaran.

Late last month, Tesla delivered the first Cybertruck pickups to customers at an event held at its gigafactory in Austin, Texas.
