As the 2024 Election Day unfolds, actress Anne Hathaway is calling on young voters to stay in line despite long wait times, singing a modified version of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit song “Please, Please, Please.”

Hathaway posted a video on Instagram, urging college students in Pennsylvania — particularly those at UPenn and Temple University — to persist through delays at polling stations. She adapted Carpenter’s lyrics, singing, “Please, please, please stay on the line… Voting is magic but also annoying. You waited this long, let’s not make it boring.”

In her video, Hathaway also highlighted organizations assisting young voters at polling places with food, water, and support. In her post’s caption, she reminded everyone that U.S. law guarantees the right to vote for anyone standing in line when polls close.

Earlier, Hathaway endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, sharing that she “voted like half the country’s lives depended on it.” She joins other celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga in encouraging voter turnout for this crucial election. Hathaway’s call to action aligns with an ongoing push by Carpenter herself, who registered the most new voters of any artist in 2024, as reported by voter engagement group HeadCount.

This celebrity-driven push for voter engagement has mobilized young voters across the nation, especially on campuses, amid efforts to turn out the Gen Z vote for key races in this swing state.
