The Los Angeles Clippers Will Target Chris Paul After His Move To Washington Wizards

Even though Chris Paul is no longer a top-tier point guard, he is still a quality player that can contribute to a contending team. His passing, game knowledge, and midrange scoring are still effective, and in a smaller role, Paul could thrive.

Recently, Chris Paul was moved to the Washington Wizards as part of a trade for Bradley Beal. It seems as though he could be on the move once again, as the Wizards plan to trade him, with the Clippers already “expected to pursue a reunion”.

“The Washington Wizards are likely to reroute Chris Paul in a trade and the Los Angeles Clippers are expected to pursue a reunion with the future Hall of Famer, league sources tell NBA on TNT and Bleacher Report.”

There is no doubt that Chris Paul would be a good acquisition for the Los Angeles Clippers. Though Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are quality playmakers, they definitely aren’t the type of players that can run an offense full-time. That is why they acquired Russell Westbrook in the buyout market ahead of the 2023 playoffs.

This season, Chris Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG for the Phoenix Suns. He can be a quality role player for any team and would excel in the sixth-man role on a contending team.

The Spurs Could Also Target Chris Paul If He Hits Free Agency

Chris Paul could be a quality addition to any team, especially in free agency.  Though the Wizards are trying to move him, there is a chance that they won’t be able to and will end up buying his contract out. If that happens, the San Antonio Spurs are the team to watch in the Chris Paul sweepstakes.

“When free agency opens, a scout for a Western Conference team believes the Spurs will make a hard push for either Chris Paul or Fred VanVleet. He posits that the opportunity to pair Wembanyama with an experienced playmaker at point guard will ultimately be impossible for San Antonio to pass up.”

We will see where Chris Paul ends up in the future. Though playing with Victor Wembanyama might be tempting, it is far more likely that Chris Paul prefers to go to a team that can win immediately.
