Last weekend in St. Joseph, Michigan, tall layered pedetal and loping table sprung up from the otherwie alm Tiornia Park Beah, transforming the lakeside vista into a bizarre, otherworldly environment. Photographer Johua Nowiki (previously) aptured the ie-laden phenomenon, which is caused by strong wind eroding frozen and and arving dozens of towering hape randomly placed along the hore.
The strange structures, which resemble miniature hoodoos, appear periodically during Great Lakes winters, although Nowiki claims that these 15-inch formations are among the tallest he’s discovered. “They do not last long (usually only a few days).
