Angelina Jolie is producing the Broadway musical adaptation of the movie “The Outsiders”.

According to DailyMail, the star said she was excited when the musical The Outsiders – directed by Danya Taymor – premiered on Broadway, wanted to spread the work to the world. “I hope to be able to contribute and learn from the crew who have worked with me since the show at La Jolla Playhouse,” Jolie said.

The cast and Broadway premiere have not been revealed. Previously, the work was premiered at La Jolla Playhouse (California) on February 19.

The play is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the year 1967. The content revolves around Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade, two friends who are searching for purpose in a complex society.

After the performance, the work was praised by experts. The San Diego Union-Tribune commented that the play successfully combines the best of books and movies. The Los Angeles Times said that the adaptation closely followed the novel.

The Outsiders (1983), directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is based on the novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton published in 1967. The story follows the Greasers, a teenage gang in rural Oklahoma who are constantly at odds with the Socials, a rival group.

When Greasers members – Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny (Ralph Macchio) – get into a fight that leads to the death of a young man, the remaining boys are forced to go into hiding. While some tried to atone for their mistakes, other young men met tragic ends.

The work attracted attention thanks to the rising cast of the time, such as Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon.
