Chelsea have finally made a breakthrough in the race to sign Moises Caicedo with the Blues agreeing a £115million deal with Brighton for the Ecuador international
Moises Caicedo is set to sign for Chelsea
Chelsea have agreed a British record £115million deal with Brighton for the signing of Moises Caicedo.
football.london understands, after months of negotiations between the Blues and the Seagulls, there has finally been a breakthrough. Caicedo, who has wanted Chelsea all summer-long, has not had his medical just yet but is expected to do so very soon to officially complete his big-money switch.
Liverpool agreed a £110million deal with Brighton on Friday evening for Caicedo. However, the Ecuador international told the Reds that he only wanted Chelsea, so a move did not materialise.
Caicedo is set to pen an initial eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge. It is understood the 21-year-old will have the option of a further 12 months as well.
The £115m – £110m plus £5m in add-ons – fee means it is a British record for a transfer, eclipsing the £107m Chelsea spent on Enzo Fernandez in January. Caicedo could be in the squad for Chelsea’s next game against West Ham United next weekend.
Meanwhile, the Blues have every confidence Romeo Lavia will follow Caicedo through the door at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea sent an offer to Southampton for the 19-year-old midfielder on Friday evening, believed to be worth £55m altogether – £52m up front and a further £3m in add-ons.
football.london understands Lavia is yet to make a decision over his future with Liverpool also very interested in signing him. However, it is Chelsea who have sent the highest offer to Southampton so far, so they are currently in the driving seat.
