Leo was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on 11th November 1974 in Los Angeles, California. During his BAFTA-winning speech for The Revenant in 2016, Leo said: “I didn’t grow up in a life of privilege. I grew up in a very rough neighbourhood in East Los Angeles.” Yet thankfully, Leo had a very supportive mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, who provided the star with as many opportunities as she could. This image of Leo and his step-brother, Adam, was captured in July 1978 outside their family home.

This is the humble home in Hollywood, Los Angeles, where Leo spent his formative years. The pad can be found just down the road from the film studios and red carpets that he would one day grace as a movie mega-star. Over the years, the famously private actor has opened up about the place where he spent his early days: “It was a pretty hardcore neighbourhood and I think that gave me a lot of motivation to, sort of, I think be successful,” he told CBS Sunday Morning.

According to Realtor, after Leo rose to fame, he snapped up this incredible estate high in the Hollywood Hills. The compound is actually formed from two neighbouring properties, one of which Leo purchased from Madonna in the 90s, for a mere $2 million (£1.7m). During his ownership, Leo has renovated and extended the estate, adding a basketball court to the grounds. Various actors have rented Leo’s digs out over the years, including the likes of Tobey Maguire.

When building his basketball court in 2007, the Academy Award-nominated actor reportedly ran into problems with neighbours, Ron and Joan Linclau. They filed a lawsuit against DiCaprio claiming the court destabilised and caused significant structural damage to their property. In 2009 the less than neighbourly lawsuit was settled out of court, according to Dirt.

Earlier in 2022, Leo’s neighbour Joan Linclau passed away before widower Ron sold their home to Leonardo in an off-market deal for $10.5 million (£8.8m). Built in 1963, the four-bedroom home spans 3,527 square feet of living space. Photos of the property are scarce as the property was never listed publicly, but Google maps images show privet hedges planted by the Linclaus and eucalyptus trees, which frame well-kept lawns and offer much-needed privacy for the new celebrity owner.

The Golden Globe Award-winning actor’s latest acquisition means his Bird Streets complex now totals over 5 acres, comprising of five adjoining parcels of land. That makes his LA compound one of the largest in the Hollywood Hills. Leo can enjoy over 15,000 square feet of combined living space across his four houses and four swimming pools. But that’s certainly not all for DiCaprio’s property portfolio…

For more than 20 years, Leonardo DiCaprio owned this chic beach house in Malibu, California. According to Realtor, the actor bought the waterfront property in 1998 for $1.8 million (£1.5m). The star parted ways with the home in November 2021 for $10.3 million (£8.6m) making a rather tasty profit. Yet, it’s not the first time the star has listed it. In 2016 he placed it on the market for a staggering $10.9 million (£9.1m).

The stunning beach house was built in 1950 and was meticulously renovated and maintained by Leo over the years. Sitting right on the sand of sought-after Carbon Beach, the chic mid-century residence benefits from unobstructed ocean views from almost every window.

Modern and light-filled, the house blends historic elements with contemporary design, resulting in fresh and bright living spaces that are sure to make any occupant feel at ease. The modern celebrity home spans just 1,765 square feet but is made to feel extra spacious thanks to its easy indoor-outdoor flow.

The home can be accessed via a secluded courtyard, which leads into a spacious hallway. From there, you’ll find three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a stunning living room with a beamed ceiling, a galley kitchen and a dining zone. The master suite is a true beauty and comes equipped with its own ocean view balcony.

Yet, of course, it’s all about the home’s location and views. Step outside and you’ll find yourself on the home’s second deck, which overlooks the waves. The waterside balcony comes equipped with a dining area, sunbathing zone, hot tub and staircase that leads down to the sand. We can see why Leo snapped this pad up, but we can’t quite understand why he’d want to say goodbye. Yet, a year later, in 1999, Leo continued to add to his portfolio by buying a four-bed and four-and-a-half-bath pad in Silver Lake for $769,000 (£640k) which he offloaded in 2018 for just shy of $1.6 million (£1.3m).

Like many millionaires, Leonardo DiCaprio has purchased himself a private paradise island—and it didn’t cost him nearly as much as you might expect. Leo paid just over $1.7 million ($1.4m) in 2005 for Blackadore Caye, a 104-acre isle off the coast of Belize. According to the New York Times, the Oscar-winning star is planning on opening an eco resort on the island, much like this one on South Water Caye. The luxury hideaway was set to open in 2018, but so far there’s no news of when it might be finished.

Leonardo DiCaprio loved this apartment complex in Manhattan so much, that he bought not one, but two units inside it—the first was snapped up in 2008 for $3.7 million (£3.1m) and the second in 2014 for $8 million (£6.7m). Known as Riverhouse, One Rockefeller Park, the eco-friendly apartment building was the perfect choice for environmentalist Leo. Overlooking Battery Park, it comes equipped with filtered water, a 50-foot lap pool and a yoga studio.

His Malibu beach house isn’t Leonardo DiCaprio’s only holiday retreat. A big fan of vacations, from luxury yacht trips with A-list stars to Saint Tropez getaways, this movie star certainly gets about. Yet when staying local, the Hollywood icon chooses Palm Springs, California, the place where the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley once vacationed. Yet, of course, Leo doesn’t stay in any old holiday home…

This extraordinary property was originally built for the American singer Dinah Shore in 1964, but Leo reportedly scooped it up in 2014 for $5.2 million (£4.3m). The house had only been on the market for a few days and the property experts at Curbed discovered that it was Leo who placed the winning bid.

The mid-century modern home was designed by renowned architect Donald Wexler, who created plenty of incredible post-and-beam properties in the Old Las Palmas neighbourhood of Palm Springs. The ultimate holiday retreat, the property comes equipped with two saunas, a guesthouse, an outdoor pool, a tennis court, a cocktail bar and a screening room.

If you’ve ever wanted to spend the night in Leo’s house, then now you can. This dreamy mid-century home is just one of many celebrity homes available to rent. But you’ll need some serious cash if you fancy staying here because it’s $3,750 (£3.1k) a night! Getting to be quite the property developer, in 2014 Leo also snapped up a $2 million (£1.7m) 1930s ranch located in the Los Angeles suburb of Studio City, which he sold in 2016 for $2.2 million (£1.8m). He also bought a $10 million (£8.3m) condo in Greenwich Village, which he flipped back onto the market again two years later at a reported $2 million loss (£1.7m).

In 2018, Leo purchased this dreamy historic home from DJ, and personal friend, Moby, paying $4.9 million (£4m) for the privilege—reportedly some $400,000 (£333k) over the original asking price. The charming Tudor-inspired home sits on a 9,700-square-foot lot in the Los Feliz neighbourhood of Los Angeles and is bordered by the 4,300-acre Griffith Park.

Known as Red Oak Manor, the stunning residence dates back to 1926 and is overflowing with charming period fixtures, which effortlessly blend in with the home’s modern touches. Luxurious and filled with natural light, the property spans 4,644 square feet and offers five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Thanks to Moby, a talented celebrity real estate flipper, every single room is effortlessly chic. Key architectural features include the home’s original groin vaulted ceilings, custom millwork and fireplace mantels, which are each decorated with elaborate detailing. Yet every single space also feels entirely modern and undeniably luxurious.

The 100-year-old property boasts numerous living rooms, each with high ceilings, original architectural details and ornate fireplaces. Inside, you’ll find a luxurious kitchen with a walk-in pantry and breakfast nook, a formal dining room and a media room that opens up to a large outdoor living room overlooking the pool.

Upstairs, Leo can enjoy two dramatic master suites, kitted out with marble bathrooms and a large walk-in closet. In fact, one of the VIP bedrooms even comes with a lofted yoga studio, where Leo no doubt enjoys some much-needed moments of zen. Elsewhere, you’ll find a gym and a guest suite with its own entrance.

Outside, there’s plenty of space for soaking up the Californian sunshine. There are several dining patios, as well as a secluded garden with a pool and spa. In August 2021, Leo decided to part ways with the property, placing it on the market with Hilton & Hyland for just over $5.7 million (£4.7m). The estate sold in February 2022 for just under $4.9 million (£4m).

Dating back to 1928, this historic home was purchased by Leo in May 2021 for $7.1 million (£5.9m). The Titanic star purchased the pad from Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and his husband Justin Mikita, who bought the estate back in 2013 for a snip under $4.6 million (£3.8m). According to the listing, the house was on the market for just seven days—and once you see inside, you’ll understand why Leo was easily persuaded to put his hand in his pocket…

Offering an imposing welcome, the home’s entrance hall is truly breathtaking. The rotunda-style foyer features an original terracotta floor, sleek stone block walls, a wrought-iron staircase and an intricately stencilled ceiling. The entrance leads into several stunning living rooms, decorated with steel-framed glass doors, rustic timber beams and Tudor-style light fixtures.

Yet Leo didn’t buy the house for himself. In fact, the veteran actor has given the estate to the number one lady in his life, his mother Irmelin. Over the years, Leo has shown how close he is with his mum, taking her to numerous red carpet events, including the 1993 Golden Globes, when he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? The pad is said to be just 30 minutes away from Leo’s home…

Full to bursting with characterful design details, the home spans an impressive 5,000 square feet. As the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ferguson knows a thing or two about interior design, but called in support from former Will & Grace set decorator, Peter Gurski, who transformed the once all-white interior into the colourful and eclectic retreat it is today. Key design details include original beehive floors, European stone fireplaces, hand-stencilled ceilings and stained glass windows.

Yet Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Tyler Ferguson aren’t the only celebrities to have owned this dreamy estate. Both Robert Pattinson and Gwen Stefani have also called the place home. Stefani, who lived here with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, is thought to have bought the estate back in 1998 for $1.4 million (£1.2m), and is said to be responsible for adding plenty of rock star-worthy extras to the home, including the impressive swimming pool that can be found in the backyard.
