In a recent interview on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, Jennifer Lawrence opened up about the rejections she faced in Hollywood. Revealing, how she missed out on a part in the 2010 movie, Alice in Wonderland, featuring Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, Lawrence called it the most discouraging moment in her career.

Jennifer Lawrence might be one of the biggest Hollywood stars in the world, but even she faced major rejection that shaped her career for the better. Famously known for her role in The Hunger Games, the actress initially auditioned for a role in the super popular Twilight series. However, the 33-year-old was immediately rejected and never received a callback.

“I auditioned for Twilight. They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback, but my life would have been totally different.”
Being unaware of the reason for which she was rejected from Twilight, the actress explained, “I didn’t really know what it was”. Lawrence further discussed the experience of auditions, stating, “when you audition when you’re a run-of-the-mill actor”. She further added, “we’re all auditioning for all sorts of things – you just get like five pages and they’re like, ‘Act, monkey!’”

The 33-year-old recalled the incident by stating how devastated she was upon losing the lead role in the 2010 movie.

Recalling the moment of sheer disappointment in herself, Lawrence stated, “That one devastated me”. Revealing how desperately she sought the lead role in Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway’s franchise, the 33-year-old mentioned feeling really low in her career. However, the actress further shared her honest appreciation for Mia Wasikowska, who led the movie.

And evidently so, the $2.9B franchise turned out to be a career changer for the actress.
