“Basketball Gods Were Just on Their Side”: LeBron James and Co Snatching 2013 Championship Still Haunts 3x NBA Champ

The 2013 NBA Finals lives rent-free in the minds of NBA fans. While the NBA has had several unforgettable moments in its rich history, the 2013 NBA Finals moment in Game 6 sets itself apart. LeBron James and the Miami Heat won the championship in 2013, much to the credit of this iconic moment. However, being on the other side of things, the San Antonio Spurs were left devastated.

Going into Game 6, the San Antonio Spurs had the series under their control. With a 3-2 lead, they seemed to be on their path towards the championship. However, just when everything seemed to be going their way, Ray Allen made “the shot” to change their fate at once. While the NBA world rejoiced this spectacular moment, the Spurs could never forget the horror. 10 years after this moment, a former San Antonio Spur and 3-time NBA champion recently shared his opinion on this unforgettable moment.

3-time champion discusses LeBron James and Co’s heist

The 2013 NBA Finals Game 6 will go down in history as one of the most thrilling games ever. The San Antonio Spurs seemed to have the series and the game under their control until Ray Allen brought out his heroics. LeBron James and Co. snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in Game 6 which brought them back into what seemed to be a disappointing series.

They then cashed in on their opportunity, completing the 3-2 comeback and winning the Game 7 of the series. They won the title back-to-back, much to the credit of the 10-time All-Star, Ray Allen’s iconic shot. However, being on the other side of this moment, 3-time champion, Danny Green still feels haunted. He shared his concerns in a recent appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast.

Somebody asked me, what was your worst loss, that’s my worst loss. That Ray Allen shot, it could have changed a lot of things for me in history.” he said, talking about the infamous moment.

He further added “Ultimately, we had a great group, we were playing good ball….I don’t think I lost confidence. Can’t take anything away from Miami. They played a hell of a series….I think there were times where our offense got a little more stagnant….it was couple of things that went wrong for us, a lot of things and the basketball gods were just on their side but take nothing away from them, they won the series“.

Danny Green had his say about “the shot” that changed the fate of the Spurs in 2013. However, how exactly did things go down in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals?

Turning back the clock to the iconic shot

Game 6 of the 2013 Finals seemed to in the worst possible direction for the Heat. The series on the line and down 3 points, the Heat witnessed their hopes of a repeat getting crushed. With the scores reading 95-92 in the favour of the Spurs and just 19.4 seconds remaining in the game, the Heat had to make a three-pointer to save their season. Then came one of the most significant moments in NBA history.
