A wandering dog’s determination paid off as she refused to be abandoned after catching the attention of a team of animal rescuers who typically aid elephants.

In the frigid city of Sri Lanka, a tiny puppy was struggling to stay alive, residing in the bustling market. She would perk up her tail in hopeful anticipation whenever someone walked by, hoping to catch somebody’s attention. It was then that Lek Chailert, along with some other rescue workers from Elephant Nature Park, spied her and took notice.

Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park serves as a sanctuary for elephants that have been rescued from various challenging and troubling circumstances. While on their elephant research journey in Sri Lanka, the team stumbled upon a puppy as they were passing through Nuwela Eliya. The pup was seen wagging its tail to catch the attention of people walking by in the bustling market area. The group shared this heartfelt moment on their YouTube channel.

As individuals hurried by, the little puppy’s distress went unnoticed. Although our team took a brief moment to give her some affection, our tight schedule prevented us from staying too long. However, as we continued on our way, the pup started to trail us, making it quite a distance before we decided to bring her back to her initial location. Yet, she persisted in following us time and time again, ultimately winning over our hearts with her unwavering determination.

Lek and her companions found themselves in a faraway place when they came across a small pup that needed their assistance. Despite their best efforts, finding someone to care for the puppy proved to be quite challenging. Their initial plan was to ask passersby to adopt her, but soon they realized that no one was interested because the dog was female. As they were losing hope, they thought of seeking help from their driver, Thushara, who was nearby. Thankfully, he agreed to take care of the puppy for them.

We purchased a fresh coverlet for our companion and gave her a refreshing bath. Our suitcases were transformed into her cozy sleeping quarters during her stay with us at the hotel.

I reckon this is the initial evening where she gets to slumber cozily and serenely.

Three years ago, they gave their furry companion the name Lek Lek. Now, the question arises, how is Lek Lek doing these days?

Thushara and his family are taking good care of her, and she’s in a great state of health and happiness. Despite three years passing by, she still remembers Lek.
