A Sydney mother has defied the odds by giving 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to two sets of identical twins. The likelihood of this happening is less than one in 100,000. Wednesday at 1.25 p.m. and 1.26 p.m., identical twins Camilla and Madison Brown were 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 to Sophia Brown, 32, and her 33-year-old spouse, Paule Brown. The identical 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 girls who were delivered at Norwest Private Hospital in Bella Vista last week were Sophia and Paule Brown’s second set of identical twins.
Ethan and Harley, their three-year-old older siblings, were also 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 at Norwest Private Hospital. Sophia remarked, “I never in a million years would have guessed that I would have twins, let alone two pairs of identical twins. It’s incredible. The second time the radiologist announced the news, I assumed she was teasing. I was more stunned than Paule, who was initially more enthusiastic, but he, too, could not believe it. We wanted a girl to complete our family after having two boys, and we couldn’t believe that we wound up with two.” In 2014, Sophia and Paule discovered they were expecting twin sons and prepared their home for their arrival.
Sophia stated, “When we found out we were expecting boys, we were both shocked and terrified, as we had no idea what to anticipate. However, we received a great deal of assistance from our families, and we eventually discovered what worked best for us. I had no complications and they were 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 healthy.” And once Sophia and Paule got over the initial shock of expecting a second set of twins, they couldn’t wait to meet their new family members.
She added, “Fortunately, both of my pregnancies were uncomplicated and proceeded very smoothly. It was necessary to use forceps to deliver the boys, so their skulls were initially shaped differently; this allowed us to tell them apart. Due to the fact that the girls were transverse and I had to perform a C-section, there is currently no way to distinguish between them as they are identical. For the time being, however, the hospital has placed ankle identifiers on the patients so that we can identify them. It is so wonderful to know that the males will always be there for each other, and we can’t wait to see the relationships the girls develop as they mature.
Sophia remarked, “We felt a lot more at ease than we did with Ethan and Harley because we knew what we were doing after all of our previous practice. And fortunately, we had saved everything, so we already had the double stroller, two bassinet, and two car seats. We did not need to make many modifications to the house, but we had to purchase an eight-seater vehicle. Ethan and Harley are extremely affectionate and gentle with their new infant sisters; they want to carry and cuddle them constantly. When they visit the hospital, they are always concerned about me and want to know how the daughters are doing. We do not intend to have any more 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren at this time; we are thrilled with our two sons and two girls; they are perfect. We have received a number of negative comments from various individuals stating that they would “hate to be us.” The fact that Paule and I have four healthy 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren is truly a fantasy come true.
