Rommel Quemenales, an 11-year-old boy from Quezon City in the Philippines, has endured a life distant from his parents since their separation when he was very young.
Despite having an older sister living in another city, Rommel was unable to afford the travel expenses to reunite with her, leaving him to live on the streets and beg for food after completing second grade.
Abandoned by his loved ones, Rommel was forced to halt his education prematurely. However, he always harbored a deep desire to continue his schooling.
In the midst of his hardships, Rommel found solace and companionship in his dog. Photos of the boy and his loyal canine friend circulated on the internet, capturing the hearts of thousands of people worldwide after his story went viral on social media.
Maria Kabs, moved by the sight of the boy and his dog on the streets, captured their poignant connection and shared the photos on her Facebook account.
The story, which emerged in 2018, quickly spread around the world alongside the image of Rommel peacefully sleeping with his dog in his arms, despite the challenges they faced.
Rommel attests that he has found peace in the presence of Badgi, a homeless dog who also wandered the streets alone. Together, they have become inseparable friends, inspiring each other to persevere through life’s trials.
