Erik Ten Hag Believes Mason Mount Could Be A ‘Big Part’ Of Manchester United’s success

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Mason Mount can play a big part in the club’s success.

Even though Man United have struggled to get positive results, Mount has played well since returning from a hamstring injury.

Ten Hag told Manutd.com: “He can be a big part. He can play in that game by supplying, making the connections – making the link-ups for those in the front line.

“He has abilities to give that [energy] and to supply our front players by combinations.

“Also in his moments of defence transition, in defending and pressing he can be and he is already a great player for us because he puts a lot of effort in.

“When we get better connections [in the team], that will grow.”

Mason Mount has improved lately

The 24-year-old moved to the Theatre of Dreams in a £55 million deal from Chelsea this summer.

His start to life with the Red Devils was largely underwhelming, with United’s midfield looking imbalanced due to his inclusion.

He is an attacking midfielder by trade and often ventures forward to press opponents.

That left Casemiro with acres of space to cover, which the opposition exposed with ease to bypass the midfield.

Mount has featured in the last three games since returning from his injury and has looked more comfortable.

He came close to scoring against Galatasaray and earned an assist in United’s 3-0 League Cup win over Crystal Palace.

Having Sofyan Amrabat at the left-back spot has given him more freedom to attack.

When Mount joins the attack, Amrabat takes the central role to help Casemiro guard the midfield.

However, Amrabat at full-back is only a temporary solution due to injuries to three left-backs.

Mount still has to do more to justify the hefty transfer fee Man United paid to secure his services in the summer.
