Anne Hathaway starred as a bipolar woman dealing with her career and relationships, in Modern Love, who hesitates to open up about her condition to others. However, she finally comes to terms with her condition and opens up about her bipolar disorder.

Talking about the scene during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared that the scene was full of “tricky twists and turns” where Lexi found herself opening up about her situation to someone for the first time.
The actress has shared that everyone could come across in such a situation. “We all walk around sometimes feeling like we have an elephant on our chest, but we’re not alone,” The Princess Diaries star said, as per Glamour.

She said that she hoped that it would be helpful for anyone who is going through something similar and open up about the same to people around them. While filming such an intensely emotional scene was a challenge in itself for the actress, it only became more critical due to the location it was being filmed on.
Anne Hathaway Followed an Odd Approach to Film the Scene Amid Train Noise
Further talking about the scene in Modern Love, Anne Hathaway shared that it became even more challenging as they were subway train noise coming through the shot every two minutes. She shared that no one “noticed that we were shooting at the base of a subway station.”

An odd approach was taken to film the scene successfully. The Oscar winner shared that they had to freeze in whatever state they were in and hold their emotion while waiting for the train to pass and continue with the scene exactly where they left it.
“And we had to do that until the scene was done,” she said. Hathaway shared that although she did not find it very pleasing, as an experienced actress, she wanted to give her best for that particular scene. And she was very proud of it as she said, “I think it’s very good work, oddly.”
