Anne Hathaway’s path to becoming a princess is now leading another actress to the throne.
Anne Hathaway had her feature film debut with the 2001 coming-of-age comedy film The Princess Diaries, which is reportedly expected to feature the Emmy winner Zendaya in its next installments.
While Hathaway has shared that she is thrilled for a third installment in the film series, there has been no confirmation, either about the project or her involvement in it. Her performance as Mia Thermopolis has been one of her best, and fans would surely love to see more of it.

However, the Oscar winner was unsure about playing a princess in her feature film debut, as she later shared that she had difficulty channeling her character while filming the 2001 film.
Anne Hathaway Did Not Want to Be a Princess
Anne Hathaway made her acting debut with the TV show Get Real before she landed the lead role in Disney’s 2001 comedy film The Princess Diaries. The movie follows a shy teenager, Mia Thermopolis, who learns that she is the heir to the throne of a European kingdom.

The actress had tough competition for the role of Mia Thermopolis, as some of the established young actresses, including Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, and Kirsten Dunst, were also on the list of top contenders. When the Interstellar star landed the role, she was very excited and thrilled.
“I was woken up by the call that I got it, and I was so happy because I really wanted this role. It was really a dream come true,” she once told Entertainment Tonight. However, the actress had never dreamed of becoming a princess before that. “I never wanted to be a princess,” she said in an interview with Collider.

So, she decided to focus on the “psychological torture” that her character had to endure throughout the movie, as she had to come to terms with something that she wasn’t even ready for. This led the actress to focus on her character’s self-identity and personal growth rather than wanting to be a princess.
Anne Hathaway is Thrilled With the Level of Excitement For a Threequel
A third installment in The Princess Diaries has been in talks for a while, and its lead star has said that she is thrilled with the excitement surrounding The Princess Diaries 3. Anne Hathaway reprised her role in the sequel that was released almost two decades ago in 2004.

There have been talks about a threequel, with recent rumors suggesting that it would follow a Gen Z biracial teen starring Zendaya. The movie is reportedly under development, and The Hustle star also talked about a potential threequel earlier this year. During an interview with People, she said that she is thrilled to “see the level of excitement for it.”
She said about the nearly two decades of delay in the threequel, “We feel the exact same, and I know it’s probably very frustrating.” Aadrita Mukerji is reportedly working on The Princess Diaries 3 screenplay. While Hathaway is also alleged to be associated with the project, no official remarks have been made about it so far.
