Replete with a deep red suit, Lebron James’s Halloween costume shows off a creative take on the classic protagonist from the 1988 film Beetlejuice.
Lebron James’ Halloween costume gives an original and spooky take on the iconic Beetlejuice. Released in 1988, Beetlejuice starred Michael Keaton as the eponymous summoned demon. Keaton acted alongside a cast that included Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder. Now, Beetlejuice is set to get a sequel Beetlejuice 2, which is directed by original Beetlejuice director Tim Burton.
NBA star James takes on the Beetlejuice protagonist in a new Halloween costume.
Posing with his wife, James took to Instagram to pose in his chique costume look. James posted a video edit of several of his costume photos alongside photos from the original film. The video is backed by audio from Beetlejuice of characters repeating incantations of the dreaded name that summons the demon. Clad in a deep red suit, James wears an impressive outfit. His face is adorned with mossy-looking makeup reminiscent of Keaton’s look in Beetlejuice. In his caption, James says “ITS SHOWTIME!!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN YOU CRAZIES! But C’Mon man! Just Say my name 3 times!!”
What’s Next for the Beetlejuice Universe
James’ well-executed costume is a great example of the lasting effect that Beetlejuice has had on cultural memory. Though released over three decades ago, Beetlejuice remains an oft-rewatched spooky feature that inspires countless Halloween costumes each year. Beetlejuice even inspired a musical of the same name, which opened in 2018.
Soon, Beetlejuice will return as the green-haired demon and the legendary Deetz family once more. Beetlejuice 2 is currently slated for a September 2024 release date, making its arrival less than one year away. While the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes could delay its release, director Burton has said that Beetlejuice 2 was less than two days away from wrapping filming, thus they will be ready to get right back once the strike lifts.
While the Beetlejuice universe has had a long hiatus, Beetlejuice 2 will still see the return of several critical figures, including Keaton’s Beetlejuice, O’Hara’s Delia Deetz, and Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. Beetlejuice 2 will also introduce Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter. Other than some character information, few plot specifics have been revealed as to the scope of Beetlejuice 2. Either way, those who dare to utter his name three times will see Beetlejuice summoned back to theaters in due time.
