Reports have claimed that Chelsea could be about to hand out a club debut tonight in the EFL Cup tie against Blackburn.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues could be about to give Djordje Petrovic his first appearance for the club as they look to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Mauricio Pochettino has already hinted that he is going to take team selection seriously tonight despite facing lower-league opposition.
The competition provides Chelsea with what is likely to be their best chance at silverware this season, with it being a couple of years now since they last lifted a trophy.
However, one position where rotation could be seen is goalkeeper, after Robert Sanchez has started every game so far since both of their additions.
There has not been universal confidence in the abilities of the Spaniard since he came in to the club. Distribution has been a particular area of concern amongst supporters inside Stamford Bridge.
Petrovic could make Chelsea debut
Therefore, tonight seems the perfect time to see what his understudy can do. A good performance can certainly see Petrovic install himself in Pochettino’s thinking.
Despite only joining for £14m, there is a lot of faith that when he breaks into the team it will be difficult to displace him.
The report that hinted that Petrovic may play tonight also predicted Benoit Badiashile to make his first appearance since the new manager came in over the summer.
The Frenchman has been back on the bench in recent weeks, however is yet to return to the pitch since his injury back in May.
Whether the goalkeeper changes or not, it is expected that the Blues put out a strong squad to try and book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
