Fans of Grant Gustin respond to The Flash director’s statement that only Ezra Miller can play Barry Allen

Following The Flash movie director’s comments about how no one other than Ezra Miller can play Barry Allen, Grant Gustin fans have things to say.

Grant Gustin fans are reacting to The Flash movie director’s recent comments about how no one can play Barry Allen besides Ezra Miller. The fastest man alive is about to return to the big screen this summer with The Flash, a DC Universe film that was put into development all the way back in 2014. With Miller back as The Flash, the film will explore the larger multiverse and be a loose adaptation of DC’s Flashpoint saga.

However, a recent statement by The Flash movie director has caused some friction online with fans of Gustin’s Flash. Andy Muschietti stated that if a sequel to The Flash were to happen, no one could replace Miller as The Flash. This caused strong reactions from Gustin fans, as they shared the following about the filmmaker’s statement:

Why Grant Gustin Fans Are Upset With The Flash Movie Director’s Comments

While it’s highly unlikely that Muschietti meant any ill will against Gustin, it is understandable why his comments have received backlash. This is coming right after The Flash series finale aired on The CW, which wrapped up the Arrowverse, a franchise that has been going on longer than the DCEU. Gustin, out of any Arrowverse star, has starred the longest in the franchise, including having a TV show that ran for nine seasons.

To a generation, Gustin has become synonymous with The Flash, as his show and performance will forever stay with the character’s media legacy. Muschietti’s comments are also, understandably so, upsetting given that Gustin and Miller’s Flashes have even interacted on-screen, thanks to Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. But the fact that the filmmaker’s comments came out barely a week after The Flash series finale, the timing couldn’t have been worse.

It also probably didn’t help that he made this statement after revealing that they couldn’t even work in a cameo with Gustin’s version of the character in The Flash movie when he is the one actor who makes the most sense to show up. Hopefully, Muschietti will clarify his comments and acknowledge the fact that Gustin just spent a decade portraying The Flash. Regardless if The Flash director comes out with any follow-up comments, Gustin’s legacy will always live on, with the entire series available to relive on Netflix and home release.
