Kevin Durant Sets The Record Straight After Andre Iguodala Says He Doesn’t Lift Weights

Suns star debunks lies about his workout routine.

Speaking on the ‘Point Forward’ podcast, Warriors legend Andre Iguodala laid out the only major “flaw” in Kevin Duant’s game. “His only flaw is he won’t lift weights,” said Iggy. “But if you watch him work out, it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen… The ball goes into the hole the exact same way every single time—back rim.” Iguodala’s statement didn’t meet any resistance at the time, but Kevin Durant later responded on X to debunk the accusation.

“Now I don’t lift weights, aight man….. these boys say anything on these podcasts.”

Iguodala spoke in confidence about Durant’s unwillingness to lift and even suggested that it’s the only thing holding him back from total dominance on the court. According to Durant, this claim is nothing more than a former teammate speaking about something he has no idea about.

Is Durant Too Small?

Durant’s small and skinny frame has been a sticking point for his critics, who have been saying for years that he needs to bulk up if he wants to achieve his maximum potential. At nearly 7 feet tall and 240 pounds, Durant is unquestionably skinny for his size but he’s a lot bigger now than he used to be. As a rookie, he was listed as low as 215 pounds before adding some weight and breaking out into a superstar.

After all this time, and over a decade of greatness, the notion that Durant needs to bulk up now seems silly even if he’s not as strong as he could be.

Some fans went a step further to defend Durant, pulling out receipts of his postgame workouts in Phoenix this year.

Of course, despite Durant’s feelings on the subject, getting bulkier would probably help his game a lot given how often he likes to drive to the rim and draw contact for easy points.

As many pointed out in the comments, the size of someone’s arms does not always reflect their strength. In the case of Durant, who has a wingspan of 7’5″, filing out his long and lank frame with pure muscle is pretty much impossible. As long as he’s productive on the court, which he still is, then there’s no reason for him to change up the routine now.

Durant Is An Early MVP Candidate

Say what you want about Durant’s body, but his game speaks for itself. Currently, in year 16, Kevin is averaging 30.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 52% shooting for the Suns. With Devin Booker and Bradley Beal in and out of the lineup, Durant has been the stabilizing factor and their main reason for being 13-11 in the West. At 35 years old, it’s impressive what Durant is doing this season and he’s got the Suns in a position to make some serious noise in the West.

If he can keep delivering at this level, the Suns are going to be tough to beat this season and Durant is going to generate a lot of traction in the MVP conversation. But until this team can succeed in the playoffs, there will always be a level of doubt about what they can accomplish. Durant, who is a 2x champion already, is going to need another masterpiece to win his third ring but that’s what it will take to silence the doubters once and for all.
