Mbappe continuously shoots into the sky, France struggles to overcome Belgium in an unexpected scenario

France beat Belgium 1-0 in the round of 16 of Euro 2024.

On the night of July 1, the much-anticipated match in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 took place between France and Belgium. However, the confrontation was not as exciting as expected.

Throughout the 90 minutes, fans witnessed the lack of luck of the French team’s attack. The 2018 World Cup champion shot 19 times but 16 times missed the target. Star Mbappe alone “shot the bird” 5 times.

Vertonghen scores own goal to help France score only goal

And then the unexpected name scored the goal that helped France advance. It was Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen. In an attempt to block, the veteran defender changed the direction of the ball, leaving goalkeeper Casteels helpless as the ball flew into the net.

A narrow 1-0 win secured France a place in the quarter-finals. They will face the winner of the Portugal-Slovenia match.
