Monet Nicole Moutrie, a photographer, captured the awe-inspiring force of 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 in a stunningly beautiful photograph. In it, a new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 infant is still attached to his placenta by his umbilical cord, which has been rearranged to spell “love.”
Umbilical ligament is the first physical link between mother and 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥. This umbilical cord has provided sustenance to the infant for nine months. And over the course of nine months, the mother’s love for her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 increases.
“I was present at this home 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 in early summer 2015,” Erin, the mother, labored throughout the night and morning, accompanied by her devoted companion Jess. I have witnessed some of the most intense and stunning events. There are insufficient words to convey the fortitude, joy, and submission that 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 requires. Over the course of more than fifty 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡s, I am moved by this image each time I revisit it. It speaks so eloquently to the difficulty and recompense of 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡. I adore the physicality of this image of a perfectly coiled umbilical cord resting on the postpartum abdomen of the mother. And I also adore the mother’s expression of sheer relief. A sense of relief that is reflected in her new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 infant. Birth is both emotionally and physically intense. It never ceases to amaze me, revealing to me glimpses of majesty and power that have long been concealed from the public eye.” -Monet Nicole
