Shohei Ohtani: “Felt Really Good” after hitting a 443-foot home run at Minute Maid Park

Well before the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen collapsed in a walk-off loss to the Houston Astros, Shohei Ohtani added onto what’s been a remarkable 2024 season.

With the Dodgers holding a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Ohtani connected for a mammoth home run to right field that nearly hit off the Minute Maid Park scoreboard in the second deck.

“I can’t even see it, but I heard it!” Joe Davis said on the SportsNet LA broadcast. “Oh, it’s going to be long gone. It is! Shohei Ohtani, to somewhere in Texas.”

Ohtani’s home run had an exit velocity of 118.7 mph and traveled 443 feet.

Following the game, Ohtani acknowledged through interpreter Will Ireton that the feeling of his 32nd home run this season was arguably the best compared to others he’s hit, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“I think probably out of all the home runs I’ve hit, I think today felt really good in terms of the angle, the distance, how it came off the bat.”

Ohtani’s home run is the second-longest ever hit in the Astros’ home stadium.

Jake Marisnick holds the record for the longest home run at Minute Maid Park, with his 469-foot blast hit off David Price on June 18, 2017. Marisnick’s record-setting homer had an exit velocity of 107.8 mph.

Ohtani is no stranger to hitting moonshots throughout his career, but has seemingly taken matters up another level with the Dodgers.

Of the National League-leading 32 home runs Ohtani has hit, 23 have traveled at least 400 feet. Included in that was a 473-foot home run that Ohtani nearly hit out of Dodger Stadium against the Boston Red Sox.

While not part of this season’s stats, Ohtani also hit a 400-foot home run at Globe Life Field during the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
