The Guardian reported on July 7 that billionaire Elon Musk threatened to sue Meta for launching Threads , claiming that the application violated Twitter’s intellectual property rights.

In a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, a lawyer representing Twitter said the company “has serious concerns that the Meta platform (Meta) is engaging in systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.”

“Twitter intends to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights and requires Meta to take immediate steps to cease using any of Twitter’s trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” attorney Alex Spiro wrote in the letter.

Meta’s Threads social networking app launched a day earlier than expected on July 5, offering Twitter users an alternative.

Threads allow users to post text content, link to websites, reply to posters, or reshare other people’s posts.

According to Bloomberg, this application allows you to connect to your Instagram account , use the same login name and follow the same accounts you are following on Instagram, Meta’s photo-sharing network with more than 2 billion users.

Meta sees Threads as a place where users can follow and connect directly with their favorite creators. In other words, Threads is like Twitter but with a bigger focus on Instagram creators and influencers.
