Mahomes opened up on the tensions in an interview with his predecessor

TEMPERS have flared as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for a potentially historic NFL season.

With a Super Bowl three-peat in their sights, expectations are high at Chiefs training camp where the rivalry between teammates got the better of them on Tuesday.

During an 11 on 11 drill around the 50-yard line, quarterback Patrick Mahomes handed the ball off to running back Isaiah Pachecho.

As he ran it up the gut for a marginal gain before being stopped by linebacker Jack Cochrane, who kept pushing Pacheco backward after the play had ended.

Rookie offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia quickly stepped in, pushing Cochrane as tempers flared between the two.

Teammates from both sides of the ball quickly stepped in to split the two, including Mahomes who rushed over and talked Cochrane away from the fight.

Fans were quick to weigh in on the fight as footage swiftly landed on X.

“I think the King will be just fine, [love] to see that attitude on lineman,” one said.

“This team is fiery and hungry,” claimed a second.

“Mahomes always playing peacemaker lol,” added another.

While others spotted linebacker Drue Tranquill’s hilarious dance moves in the back of the shot after the players separated.

“Lol Tranquill at the end,” one commented.

While the 2024 season could go down in the history books should the Chiefs win it all at Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes recently downplayed the pressure in an interview with his predecessor, Alex Smith.

“It wasn’t like we talked about it openly,” Mahomes said of the potential three-peat on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“I mean, right after the Super Bowl, you saw that we were saying, ‘We gotta go do it.’ But since we’ve gotten back…it’s just football.

“I mean, we know what the process is, the day-by-day process of just getting better.

“This is the hardest week for us, coming back to St. Joseph after that first preseason game, but you saw guys feisty out there today.

“Guys want to be great and I think that’s the best thing about it.”

As eluded to by Mahomes, the Chiefs preseason recently got underway with a 26-13 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mahomes’ reps were limited, going three of four for 27 yards.

Carson Wentz, Chris Oladokun, and Ian Book also split reps.

Kansas City will return to action on August 17th when they face the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.
