Multimillion-dollar investments made by Patrick Mahomes halted when KC Current co-owners disclosed difficulties

The Chiefs aim to win the first three-peat in NFL history

resh from their consecutive Super Bowl wins, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs are entering this season with the rare opportunity to pursue a three-peat, a feat only eight teams have ever achieved but none have succeeded. This accomplishment is just one of many in Mahomes’ impressivesix-season career as a starting quarterback. His success has not only earned him a 10-year, $450 million contract with the Chiefs but also allowed him to invest in various ventures, including a stake in the Kansas City Royals, a Major League Baseball team valued at $1.2 billion, and the Kansas City Current, a professional women’s soccer team, alongside his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

Problems with Mahomes investments ?

Patrick and Brittany, who is a former soccer player, have shown a deep commitment to promoting women’s sports. In January 2023, Mahomes joined Brittany as a co-owner of the Kansas City Current. The couple has faced challenges in securing funds for the team, particularly when they decided to build a home stadium. Chris and Angie Long, the other co-owners, explained the difficulty in persuading investors to finance the $135 million CPKC stadium.Despite these obstacles, the Longs, with their background in finance, successfully secured the necessary funding, proving skeptics wrong.

The success of the KC Current’s new stadium has been a turning point. Angie Long emphasized the importance of believing in the long-term potential of women’s sports, despite the history of failed leagues. The stadium’s first game sold out, with $20 room-only tickets reselling for over $100. The team has also seen financial gains from sponsorships and naming rights, and the success of the stadium has led to additional projects, including an $800 million development near Berkley Riverfront Park, they earlier found it difficult to build the stadium but after the overwhelming success, everyone is optimistic about new projects as well. The Kansas City Current, is currently in third place of the National Women’s Soccer League way better than last year where they finish second to last place.

NFL begins next week

As the new NFL season begins, the Chiefs are focused on securing their third consecutive Super Bowl win. Last season, Mahomes recorded 4,183 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, even in what was his less productive year for him. With Isiah Pacheco anchoring the ground game and a strengthened offensive lineup, expectations are high for Mahomes to have an exceptional season. If the defense performs as well as it did last year and the team secures home-field advantage in the playoffs, their biggest threat might be injuries.

The Chiefs’ offense looks poised for success with Travis Kelce, who continues to be a dominant force, and the emergence of Rashee Rice, who set a record for most postseason receptions by a rookie (26). The addition of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, though he will miss the first few weeks, along with the deep-threat rookie Xavier Worthy and the return of JuJu Smith-Schuster, could see Mahomes surpassing 5,000 passing yards and 35 touchdown passes this season. The Chiefs are undoubtedly aiming to make history with a three-peat, and Mahomes is at the center of this ambitious goal.
