Over the last few days racers have had three attempts to practice the track as two were scheduled for Friday and one was earlier today- hours before the qualifying run.

Lewis placed seventh on the first track run and then came first in the final two – completing a circuit in 1:20.117.

The drivers who qualified will then go head to head for the final race on Sunday at 2pm – the final will take place over 53 laps of the 5.793-kilometre circuit.

Lewis will compete in this race to add to his already impressive track record.

The Stevenage 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 athlete has entered 346 Grands Prix, made it to 201 podiums, finished first in 105 race and won seven world championships.

It  comes after Lewis criticised Mercedes’ strategy at the Belgian Grand Prix and revealed that he wasn’t informed that he would be ‘one-stopped’ by team-mate George Russell.

Lewis appeared set for victory in Belgium until George, who gambled on only stopping once, managed to overtake him.

Eventually, George was ᵴtriƥped of his victory as he was disqualified for his Mercedes being 1.5kg underweight.

Lewis was subsequently awarded the win but had earlier expressed his frustration with Mercedes.

Hamilton’s team-mate George Russell banked on a one-stop strategy in Belgium

The British driver revealed that he told Mercedes that his tyres were fine when he pitted.

Speaking after the race, Lewis told Sky Sports: ‘You have to put the faith in the people that you work with. I put the faith in my strategists. I should be able to lean on them fully.

‘I told them that the tyres are fine and they pulled me in. Did I know that I was at risk of getting one-stopped by my team-mate? They didn’t tell me that.

‘Congrats to George. It’s great to go into the break with such a performance.’
