‘Media mogul’ Oprah Winfrey hospitalized for taking diet pills

Late last year, Oprah Winfrey shocked the public with her dramatic change in appearance. The hostess confessed to using diet pills to slim down, but recently, there was news that Oprah was hospitalized due to a drug reaction.

The 70-year-old media mogul has revealed her incredible transformation over the past few months, thanks to the help of weight loss pills . Although she did not specify what kind of medication she was taking, Oprah Winfrey confirmed that it was a drug commonly prescribed to type 2 diabetics because it helps regulate insulin levels in the body.

Oprah has praised the drugs and called them a “gift.” She told People magazine : “The fact that I have a medically approved prescription for weight control and better health in my life is a relief. They are a salvation and a gift.”

However, fans were left concerned when it was reported that the television icon had been hospitalised with a stomach virus and had to cancel a television appearance.

Oprah’s longtime friend and MC Gayle King said: “Oprah will not be on CBS Mornings because she has a stomach illness… She’s been hospitalized, dehydrated and on IV fluids. It’s a very serious thing.”

Some viewers with medical knowledge shared their views on this: “Oprah Winfrey is taking a diet pill like ozempic. It suppresses appetite. It can also suppress the immune system leading to illness. People who take ozempic often do not track their calories. They can become malnourished and have stomach problems.” Another expressed: “Gastroparesis is a side effect of ozempic.”

According to WebMD.com, some side effects of ozempic include vomiting and diarrhea, and they advise anyone experiencing severe stomach pain or abdominal pain to seek medical attention immediately.

Last October, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that taking diabetes drugs for weight loss can lead to dangerous gastrointestinal problems, including biliary tract disease, gastroparesis, pancreatitis or intestinal obstruction.
