How ‘SugaChallenge’ Turned BTS’ Suga DUI into a Social Media Smear Campaign

Marrakech – BTS band’s Suga, whose offstage name is Min Yoongi, has found himself at the center of a social media frenzy after his August 6 drunk-driving incident.

At first, Korean media pointed fingers at BTS’s fan base, known as “ARMY” for the #SugaChallenge, a trend that seemed to glamorize drunk driving.

But plot twist: it turns out rival K-pop fans were behind the whole fiasco.

The incident? SUGA got busted for DUI while riding an electric scooter, yes, you read that right.

Now, as legal debates swirl over whether his scooter counts as a personal mobility device, online drama has taken center stage.

Rival fan groups are seizing the moment to throw shade at both SUGA and ARMY.

Usually, challenges on social media means joining a viral trend, but in this case, the so-called challenge is all about mocking Suga’s DUI.

The #SugaChallenge took over X with users posting pictures of people holding booze behind the wheel, unfairly dragging ARMY into the drama.

Dig a little deeper, and it turns out fans of bands like BLACKPINK, NewJeans, and aespa were behind the stunt, using fake BTS profiles to fuel the fire.

In the face of this misinformation storm, ARMY fired back with counter-trends like #FAKECHALLENGE, #Its_Not_Army, and #KoreanMediaBeProfessional to set the record straight and call out the fake news.

Despite the backlash, SUGA has apologized and promised to cooperate with authorities, and his global fanbase is standing strong in support.

As SUGA fulfills his mandatory military service, ARMY is on high alert against any attempts to sully his and BTS’s reputation.

Their message? The drama might be fierce, but the loyalty is unshakable.
