“Sanford and Son” is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1972 to 1977, based on the British show “Steptoe and Son.
” Known for its racial humor and catchphrases, it starred Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, a cantankerous junk dealer, and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont. The show was a hit, finishing in the Nielsen top ten five times during its six seasons and is considered a precursor to many Black American sitcoms. The series was adapted by Norman Lear, also behind “All in the Family.”
