A look inside Kim Kardashian’s California home revealed that she has a $5 million Jean-Michel Basquiat painting hanging in her hallway. See the pricey artwork.
Kim Kardashian doesn’t skim on fine art.
That’s why the Kardashians star has an original Jean-Michel Basquiat painting hanging inside her California home.
As seen in photos shared by Kris Jenner from a Wicked viewing party Kim recently threw at her house, the 44-year-old showed off a work of art titled “Both Poles” during the bash, as it hung in a white hallway next to green and pink decorations.
The piece was first auctioned off to the public by Christie’s in 2017 for approximately $4.9 million. Per online art marketplace Widewalls, it was last sold in 2020 for a little over $5.1 million.
Created in 1982, the artwork features acrylic, oilstick and paper collage mounted on canvas with tied wood supports. It “juxtaposes North and South, heaven and earth, and excavation and transmission through signs and symbols evoking mountains, the moon, a pickaxe, and a power pylon,” according to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
“Basquiat was interested in dichotomies of wealth/poverty, integration/segregation, text/image, and abstraction/figuration,” read a museum description shared by his estate on Instagram. “Though these ideas contrast, Basquiat’s composition holds them in constant relation to one another.”
