david tamela mann marriage have been married for 36 years, but it’s hasn’t been all candy and roses. In an appearance on The Breakfast Club to promote Tamela’s upcoming album “Live Breathe Fight,” the couple opened up about the toughest moment in their marriage.
David told hosts Charlamagne tha God, DJ Envy and Lauren Larosa the two had been married for five years when he received a knock at the door. It was then that he was informed that he had another 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥. Tamela knew about his first daughter as she was friends with David’s 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦’s mother and had actually been at the hospital for the 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 before she and David even dated. But, the second daughter was a surprise to her.
“As he came and said this to me about the other the young lady—which I knew about the other young lady and I knew they had been intimate,” Tamela said. “I knew they had a thing going and all of that. But for how it was presented, it was rough for me to take it.”
They spoke about David’s newest addition and Tamela said she couldn’t deal with it and was going to end the marriage. But there was something David said that convinced her to stay and work it out—accountability.
“It’s me and you against everything else,” David said. “I know that this is a hard situation to swallow. I know I put us in a bad situation. I tell my kids now, I put ya’ll in a bad situation.”
Now David wasn’t totally oblivious to the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥’s existence. He said there were rumors that his daughter was his, but he was sure. When host Lauren Larosa asked him if the mother hadn’t confronted him via constable, would he had sought out the truth. David said he wasn’t sure if he was mature enough back then to do so. However, because of that knock at the door, he got his priorities in order and made sure to assure Tamela he was putting their marriage first and it was them against the world.
“When David told me, the resolve for me, he said ‘It’s us and then it’s them,’” Tamela said. “He said ‘So you will never have to worry about me choosing me over them because it’s us first and then it’s them.’”
Their marriage grew stronger from there and they’ve maintained wedded bliss for 36 years. Tamela said it’s not about being in love, but it’s about liking each other at the end of the day and she and David really do like each other.
