The Community Comes Together To Help A Beloved Couple Celebrate Their 62 Years Of Marriage

When two people who have had a lasting impact on their community celebrate a milestone, everyone wants to get involved! Peter and Pauline McKenna of Bantry, Ireland, are just such folks. These lifelong residents recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary, an occasion that took place at the Bantry Bard Lunch Club — a fitting location considering they’re founding members.

“It is particularly poignant that both Peter and Pauline are founding members of the Bard Community Centre, which continues to provide cultural, social and educational opportunities for the entire Brantry community,” Colm Gildernew, a member of the committee said.

In fact, the celebrations have only just begun! The Bard Centre itself celebrates 40 years later this month with events like a treasure hunt, fishing and pool competitions, stories and songs by the fire, and more.

“This is a wonderful landmark for any married couple, and, given the respect for Peter and Pauline in the Brantry and beyond, this was a really special event,” Colm added.

Watch a bit of the celebration below, and don’t forget to share.
