Axel Disasi has already revealed what could drive £34m Manchester United transfer

Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi has been linked with a move to Manchester United as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his defence this summer

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be looking at a centre-back to help strengthen their defence ahead of the upcoming season.

With Phil Jones departing and Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire potentially leaving too, a centre-back is on Ten Hag’s wish-list. Erroneous reports in Italy suggested Napoli’s Kim Min-jae was a shoe-in to be joining the Reds on July 1 but the speculation has since cooled.

AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi is reported to be on Ten Hag’s radar thanks to a solid season in Ligue 1. The Frenchman made 49 appearances for his domestic club adding a highly respectable six goals for his team in the process.

However, Monaco’s failure to qualify for Europe after finishing sixth in Ligue 1 could see Disasi heading for the exit door. The 25-year-old has already expressed his admiration for the Premier League but it was his ambition on his first day at the principality-based club which could ultimately see him leave.

He told reporters: “I came to AS Monaco for its very ambitious project. I, too, have ambitions and seeing players like Dayot Upamecano, for example, succeed, gives me the means to reach my own ambitions and it’s up to me to work hard so that I and AS Monaco can play in Europe in order to meet our goals.”

While Disasi has been plugging away at Monaco, his inspiration Upamecano has earned his big move to Bayern Munich and is a crucial member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad. It is no surprise a move to Old Trafford now entices the defender.

On the field, United are a club on the up having just secured a return to the Champions League. Ten Hag is wanting to build a more youthful squad so chances for Disasi to impress would be frequent.

At £34m ($43m), Disasi would represent value for money and could be the perfect addition to an ever-strengthening United defence.
