Manchester United considering loaning Mason Greenwood amid reluctance to a sale

Mason Greenwood has not played for, or trained with Man United since January 22 2022 and is under contract until 2025.

Greenwood has not played since January 22 2022

Manchester United are leaning towards loaning Mason Greenwood with Erik ten Hag against selling the forward.

Greater Manchester Police announced on February 2 that Greenwood “no longer faces criminal proceedings”. Greenwood, 21, had been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against Greenwood and United have been conducting their own process as they “determine the next steps”.

United have spent almost five months mulling over Greenwood’s future and a club source insists they are focused on settling on an outcome before next season begins.

Ten Hag said in an interview with The Times last month that Greenwood “showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [centre forward role]”.

Greenwood is contracted to United until 2025, with the option of an additional year, and he last played in the 1-0 win against West Ham on January 22 2022.

Greenwood has not returned to United’s Carrington training complex since the charges were dropped almost five months ago. In recent photographs, he was pictured training privately.

United offset Greenwood’s indefinite absence by signing left-footed right-sided forward Antony from Ajax last year in a deal worth £85.51million.

Bradford-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 Greenwood has played 129 times for United and scored 35 goals. He made his England debut against Iceland in September 2020.
