Mason Mount to receive monster pay rise as he prepares to join Man United from Chelsea… with England star set to quadruple his salary to £250,000-a-week at Old Trafford

Mason Mount is set to see his paycheck triple when he joins Manchester United from Chelsea.

The Blues have agreed to sell the England international to their Premier League rivals for up to £60m and it seems that Mount will benefit significantly on a financial front by moving up north.

Mount is set to sign a five-year deal worth £250,000-a-week at Old Trafford, with the option of another year extension.

His move to United comes after his wishes to get Chelsea to increase his £80,000-a-week wages – after being named the club’s Player of the Year in 2020-21 and 2021-22 – were refused.

The 24-year-old was entering into the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, earning just a quarter of the sum, before Erik ten Hag‘s side swooped in.

Bonuses could even see Mount’s weekly wage increase to £300,000, depending on performances.

Mount was one of the ten Hag’s main transfer targets this summer, but Man United were reluctant to overpay for him.

However, the Red Devils reopened talks with Chelsea earlier this week to try and thrash out a deal, with players set to be returning for pre-season training imminently.

Mount made 195 senior appearances for Chelsea, a club he joined as a six-year-old, and won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with the west London club.

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was an admirer of Mount, and saw him fitting well into his system at the club.

However, the Blues also have financial obligations to meet, and being able to sell a youth talent for a significant sum will help to balance the books after a year of chaotic spending under Todd Boehly.

Mount started at Chelsea as a six-year-old and rose up to win the Champions League in 2021
