This is the heartwarming moment when one of the tiniest neonates to ever survive 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 in the United Kingdom receives her first ever embrace from her father.
Macey Micklethwaite, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in Worcester, weighed only 551 grams at 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡, barely larger than her father’s palm. The fact that her father, Rhys, had been in a F motorcycle s just weeks earlier – and had cheated t by one second – makes her survival even more remarkable. The couple was ecstatic when Karen Dawkins, age 33, discovered she was 18 weeks pregnant. A month later, however, Karen went into labor, and physicians cautioned the couple that their daughter was unlikely to survive.
“At 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡, she was roughly the size of my hand.” When I view old photographs of her, I recognize how unlike a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 she looks, but at the time, I thought, “Wow, what a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦. She has been through so much. My 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day occurred the day after her delivery, and it was a joyous occasion. I am so privileged to possess her. It was the most memorable day of my existence.” Mom said
At five months of age, she was eventually permitted to return home. At eight months of age, she weighed 8.5 pounds, which was barely more than the average weight of a full-term infant. She is an average neonate. She is diminutive but gaining up to the rest of the pack. Regarding health and development, she is on track.
It is astounding how much suffering she has endured.
The family was assisted by Cots for Tots, a charity that generates funds for Fe-s equipment for tu infants and provides free housing to parents and siblings of new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧s at St. Michael’s. She is currently soliciting funds for them because she is so grateful for the assistance she received.
