Your Chelsea morning headlines on Sunday, July 16.

Chiesa chance

Chelsea have received a boost from Juventus over reported target Federico Chiesa. Chiesa, 25, has two years remaining on his contract and has been tentatively linked with a switch to Liverpool this summer.

However, reports have also touted Chiesa as a target for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and Juventus’ stance could clear the way for the Bluesto make a move for the Italy forward. Reports have suggestedthat Chelsea are planning to step up their efforts to sign the Juventus attacker, with the club described as the ‘most interested’ in Chiesa.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has fuelled the idea that the player could soon be on the move after explaining Juventus’ stance on a potential deal. Speaking to Wett Freunde, he said: “Aston Villa have bid €60million (£51.2million) for Chiesa but he hasn’t even listened to the offer as he doesn’t want to join Aston Villa. He only wants to play at top clubs.”

Mbappe hint

Kylian Mbappe has suggested he will be paying close attention to Chelsea in a message to Christopher Nkunku. The pair played together during Nkunku’s time at PSG and remain teammates at international level.

Chelsea are also long-term admirers of Mbappe and have been tentatively linked with a sensational move for the PSG star as he enters the final 12 months of his deal. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has maintained that he plans for Mbappe to stay and sign a new contract, amid claims of him already reaching an agreement with Real Madrid.

Mbappe showed that he will be paying close attention to Chelsea’s fortunes, though, after Nkunku took to social media after his ‘first session with the lads’. In the comments, Mbappe replied to his France teammate: “Going to get my popcorn.”

Pre-season tour hint

Chelsea’s pre-season is well underway and the transfer window is wide open as the second week of July comes to a close. Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have trained under Mauricio Pochettino for the first time, while Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won’t be returning until next week.

The Blues still have more business to do in player sales and will also want to add players to their squad such as Moises Caicedo but Pochettino’s plans will have to begin to come together with the west London side’s friendly in less than seven days’ time. Soon Pochettino will be forced to name his first squad to fly out to the United States, with his first team selection to quickly follow for Wrexham in North Carolina.

There’s no shortage of news to follow or debate at Chelsea this summer and Chelsea writers Scott Trotter and Bobby Vincent discuss all of the above and more on the latest episode of View from the Bridge podcast.
