Chelsea can answer Mauricio Pochettino’s big transfer request by completing a huge move for PSG star Kylian Mbappe in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Frenchman in an unlikely deal as he continues to play out a very public saga with his club over the near future. Mbappe refused to trigger a one-year extension in his contract earlier this year, meaning the forward has just 12-months remaining.

That has led to an ultimatum from the executives at PSG, who have claimed he must sign a new deal or will be allowed to leave this summer as to avoid losing out on a transfer fee next year. With the saga still playing out, the latest twist was taken as it was revealed the 24-year-old won’t be part of a pre-season tour in Japan.

It ramps up talks surrounding an exit, with Chelsea now in the race alongside the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal and a potential switch to the Saudi Pro League. It remains to be seen if any move is possible, given the potentially large transfer fee and wages for a player that is free next summer.

However, if the Blues were to make an offer, it could see them finally secure a type of player that Pochettino has recently requested from his recruitment team. So far, the strategy has surrounded many exits to trim the squad, while also focusing on landing young stars in the window.

However, for the new head coach, leaning on experience is something he is looking for in the next players that will join. He told the press after a victory over Brighton in pre-season on Sunday: “Yes we have many young but we need some experienced players also. We are working really hard to add some players that can help this year also but help today and try to get what we want.”

In Mbappe, not only are the side getting a player that is arguably the best in the world right now, but also a star that gives them the best of both worlds. At his age, there’s still plenty to come and he is far from his peak, which is terrifying for those that won’t have him, but brilliant for whichever team will.

While he is still young, the Frenchman brings plenty of experience, winning top trophies and already taking on a leadership role on the pitch. Whether he would work at Chelsea or they could even secure a deal remains to be seen, however it would certainly be an ideal reunion for Pochettino.
