A Huge Difference Between The Richest Contracts In NBA History In Just 7 Years: From $153 Million To $304 Million

• Mike Conley’s five-year $153 million deal was the richest contract in NBA history in 2016

• Jaylen Brown recently signed a five-year $304 million supermax extension with the Boston Celtics, which is the biggest contract in NBA history in 2023

• In just seven years, the difference between the two richest contracts is unbelievably $151 million

After months of speculation, the Boston Celtics awarded Jaylen Brown with a five-year $304 million supermax contract extension. Brown has signed on the dotted line for the richest contract in NBA history.

The amount of money that NBA players are making right now is higher than ever. After all, just seven years ago in 2016, Mike Conley’s five-year $153 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies was the biggest contract in NBA history.

As of now, Conley is on a three-year $68 million contract which he signed with the Utah Jazz. While Conley set the record for the biggest contract in NBA history seven years ago, his deal looks nothing in front of the behemoth deals that players are signing right now.

Does Jaylen Brown Deserve The Biggest Contract In NBA History?

The 26-year-old Celtics star had a career year last season. He averaged 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG while making the All-NBA second team.

Was Brown one of the best players in the NBA last season? Without a doubt. But at the same time, many believe that Brown has been overpaid by the Celtics.

It could be the fear of losing their franchise star Jayson Tatum. After all, Tatum is very close to Brown, and the Celtics cannot risk upsetting him.

At the end of the day, Brown’s deal may look humongous on paper: he will be paying heft taxes and fees. Brown will take home only $24.5 million per season on average after the full calculation. Either way, JB has etched his name in NBA history by signing this extension.
