Dolly: The Courageous Mother Dog Nurturing 16 Puppies from Three Different Litters
As Mitzi Brogdon, the president and director of Street Dog Rescue & Recovery, was driving along the road, she noticed a distressed brown-furred dog with a pleading expression, seemingly calling out for help.
Feeling compelled to assist, Mitzi parked his vehicle close by and approached the dog, whom he affectionately named Dolly. According to Mitzi’s account to The Dodo, as soon as he approached Dolly, she welcomed his love and attention. However, he soon realized that Dolly needed more than just affection.
Dolly led Mitzi down the road towards a cell tower, and he followed her. It was at this moment that Mitzi discovered a group of 16 puppies emerging from behind a fallen log. Gradually, one by one, the small pups came out of their hiding place.
Even for an experienced rescuer like Mitzi, the sight of so many puppies was truly astonishing. She expressed her surprise, saying, “I’m accustomed to seeing dogs all over Oklahoma, but having such a large number at once was truly shocking.”
After careful observation, Mitzi realized that the puppies belonged to three different litters, which meant that Dolly was selflessly caring for puppies that were not biologically her own. Mitzi described Dolly as a heroic mother who had kept the puppies safe and provided them with shelter, protecting them from the dangers of the outside world. These details were shared with The Dodo.
Upon realizing the scale of the rescue, Brogdon sought assistance to accommodate the 17-member family. Due to their large number, they were placed in four separate shelters, where they are receiving excellent care. Currently, they are awaiting completion of their vaccination program before they can be placed in forever homes.
While the puppies have garnered significant attention, Mitzi expresses concern for Dolly. She earnestly appeals to potential adopters to consider this older girl, emphasizing that she is equally deserving and eager to find a loving family. This heartfelt plea comes from the depths of Mitzi’s heart.
